Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the service cost?
For an individual, a 401(k) WealthEngine subscription is $35.00 per month, or $420.00 per year. (For an account size of $60,000, this is a fee of 0.7% per year, for an account size of $100,000, this is a fee of 0.4% per year, and for an account size of $200,000, this is a fee of 0.2% per year.)

How do I pay for my subscription?
When you start the subscription process, you will be asked to provide your credit card information over our secure website. We will automatically charge your credit card each month on a recurring basis. If at any time you wish to change the credit card we are using, or if changes are made to the card (new account # or expiration date), please notify us immediately. If for some reason your credit card is denied, we will make every attempt to contact you for updated credit card information. If we are unable to contact you in a reasonable amount of time, your subscription will be canceled.

What if I want to terminate my subscription?
We want you to be completely satisfied with our service. If you want to end your subscription because you feel we are not meeting your needs, just email us at and we will cancel your subscription and refund the last monthly charge. Please be sure to include your name, address and phone number in your email to us.

What types of retirement accounts does the 401(k) WealthEngine work with?
Our service is designed to work with any employer-sponsored retirement plan which provides a reasonable assortment of investment vehicles for participants. This includes 401(k), 403(b), 457 plans and the Federal Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).

What if I have a self-directed IRA?
Our service will work for self-directed IRA accounts as well. Or, if you prefer, you may want to investigate having us manage your IRA through our parent company, Alpha Investment Management. If you are interested in learning more about our investment management services, email us at with your contact information.

How do you stay in touch with me?
We have multiple lines of communication with our clients. First, and most importantly, we are available by phone. We will even return your calls after business hours and on weekends if that is required by your schedule.

We also email you a monthly newsletter which gives you an update on The 401(k) Formula and its current investment status. The newsletter also educates clients about important concepts which are vital to long-term investment success.

When its time for a change in fund allocations, we send you an advance email so that you know the change will be coming soon. Then, a day before the change, we will email you with instructions. Finally, shortly after the change, we will send you a confirming email, just in case you missed our earlier announcements.

We will also periodically email you a "White Paper", which is a detailed treatment of a retirement planning idea. Once again, we want you to gain the knowledge necessary to become a successful long-term investor.

Once a year, we will contact you by email to see if you'd like to talk about your account or if you need to update us on any significant changes in your life which might affect your investment strategy.

As you can see, it is vital that we have your current email address and phone number on file. If you make changes, please notify us immediately so we can update our records. Also, if for some reason you are not receiving any communications from us, please notify us immediately so we can rectify the problem.

Do I need my employer's approval to use your service?
No. Remember, your 401(k) is your account and you are solely responsible for the investment decisions which guide the investments in your account. Our service is to advise and assist you with your investment decision process.

Do you periodically review my account?
No. We do not have access to your account and cannot assume responsibility for reviewing your portfolio. We presume that you are following our recommendations and therefore we know the asset allocation of your account. If your employer or plan administrator makes changes in the funds available, or if your 401(k) vendor/custodian changes, you need to contact us and we will work together to review your choices.

Will my 401(k) have the same returns as The 401(k) Formula?
No. Your returns will be different because your funds will be different from the indexes used in The 401(k) Formula. Remember, The 401(k) Formula is a model - a recipe - for asset allocation over time. The objective of the model is to identify when it's safe to be in stocks and what kind of stocks to invest in. The mutual funds in your plan will be unique in the way that they invest, but your returns should be close to the results of The 401(k) Formula in most instances. Naturally, some funds do a better job than others. Hopefully, the funds in your plan are top-ranked in their category.
